Woodhouse Eaves Scouts
May Day Dash 2026

Welcome to the inaugural Woodhouse Eaves Scout Group May Day Dash, to be held on 4th May 2026.
This is an off-road event for runners aged 16+ to raise funds for Woodhouse Eaves Scout Group. It covers approximately 11 kilometres through the Charnwood countryside.
The event is open to participants of all abilities, so whether you’re a competitive club runner, a casual steady-trotter, or anywhere in between, this event has lots for you to enjoy.
The Route
The circular route starts and ends on the field behind Woodhouse Eaves Scout Hut.
Entrants are reminded of the hazards inherent in off-road/trail running and acknowledge that they are entering and running this race at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. These hazards include rough and uneven ground, such as rocks, mud, tree roots, and wet grass, together with steep climbs and descents and that some sections are rural and remote from road access. Check our Facebook page nearer the time for details of any hazards that may have arisen.
Participants are reminded of the Event Disclaimer which they will have accepted as part of the entry process.
There will be a tail walker at the event, and ideally we would like all participants to be safely back at the Event HQ by 12:00 so we can stand down the marshal team, who will have been out on the course since early that morning. While we would like everyone to be able to enjoy the event and take on the challenge at their own level, please bear this in mind.
Dogs
Sorry, but as the route passes through several fields, including private land, where livestock may be present, dogs are unfortunately not permitted to accompany runners competing in the event.
Wheelchairs & Buggies
Unfortunately, the course is unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies.

Race HQ
The Race HQ is at Woodhouse Eaves Scout Hut, Main Street, Woodhouse Eaves, LE12 8RZ. This is at the back of the car park behind the village hall.
Parking
Please car share if driving to the event, where possible.
The village hall car park will be closed to all vehicles (apart from those staffing the event and emergency vehicles) for the duration of the event.
However, there is additional parking in The Bull’s Head and Pear Tree car parks on Main Street and the Curzon Arms car park on Maplewell Road.
If you do park on local streets to attend the event, please make sure not to create a traffic hazard or to block the access for any residents. For those competitors with the energy to cycle to/from the event (!) there is space at the HQ for cycles to be parked. Although there will be members of the event team around during the day this will be at the owner’s risk.
Bag storage
Secure bag storage will be situated in the Woodhouse Eaves King George V Hall, manned by members of the scout group. You will need to show your race number to pick up your bag after the race.
Changing & Toilets
There are public toilets in the village hall car park near the Event HQ, however no separate changing facilities are available.
Refreshments
Refreshments will be available to purchase at the Event HQ, including tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes and a selection of other snacks. BBQ hot food is available to pre-order via the entry form and on the day. Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options will be available.
If you could indicate when completing your entry form whether you’d like hot food after the race, it would be very much appreciated.
Registration
Registration will take place in the Woodhouse Eaves King George V Hall and will open at 08:00 for collection of race numbers and any last-minute queries. Please pin your number to your front and make sure it can be clearly seen by the marshals. Note that there may be photographs taken by the marshals or members of the Scout Group during the event which may be used for future publicity of the event. If you do not wish your photograph to be used for this purpose, please make this known at registration so your race number can be noted.
Start times
Compulsory pre-race briefing at 9:50.
Race start 10:00. Late starters will not be admitted.
Water stations
There will be a water station approximately halfway round the course.
If you think you may need more that what will be provided at this stop then we suggest you carry a bottle or similar for the event. Water will also be available at the finish. Although this may be using disposable cups, if you are able to bring your own reusable water bottle then we will happily refill it for you.
Toilets on the route
Toilets are available in Old John car park.
First Aid / Emergencies
For any first aid or other emergencies experienced while at the Event HQ, please inform a marshal. First aid cover on the course and at the event HQ will be provided by experienced first aiders and St. John’s Ambulance crew. As sections of the route are rural, rough underfoot, and remote from the road, in the event of an accident or a runner becoming unwell please stop to provide assistance if necessary and ensure that a marshal located at one of the road crossings is informed of the situation as soon as possible. In the unfortunate situation that you are unable to finish the event and need to retire, please make your way to the nearest road crossing, and inform the marshal located there, who will be able to provide assistance. We also ask that you report to the finish before you leave the event.
